Curriculum Overview

Little Tiger covers all core subjects taught in a comprehensive curriculum.  Our teaching team strives to inspire students’ natural love of learning by making the classroom experience fun, engaging, and hands-on as well as academically rigorous.

Language arts

Our Chinese Language Arts curriculum is developed in coordination with the English Language Arts curriculum, allowing skills learned in one language to transfer to another as students advance simultaneously in both languages. This approach allows our students to achieve a very high level of Chinese proficiency, while also well prepared to transition into an English language learning environment later on in their education. Learn more about our approach on Chinese Literacy and English Literacy.

Math

We use Singapore Math as our math curriculum, starting in Kinder. Students first learn basic concepts through concrete manipulatives, followed by pictorial representations, before moving into abstract numerical formats. Singapore Math also emphasizes strong critical thinking skills, self-discovery, and multiple approaches to solving problems. In the upper elementary grades, we also integrate adaptive software to facilitate self-paced, mastery-based learning. This adaptive technology allows students to progress at their own speed, ensuring they fully grasp each concept before moving on.

Science

Using both a dedicated science lab and the daily environment around them, students conduct experiments to make sense of the world while developing scientific reasoning and investigation skills.  Beginning in 3rd grade, they also participate in our annual Science Fair, where they develop and present their project in both English and Chinese.

Computer Science and robotics

Weekly computer science classes begin in 3rd grade and are a favorite among many Little Tiger students. Co-taught by experts from our parent community, the classes introduce the computer as a tool for creative problem-solving. Topics include the fundamentals of computing, networks & the internet, block-based programming, and online safety. The class also includes an extended robotics unit in which students use their block-based programming skills to manipulate microcontrollers and small programmable robots.

Social Studies

Our Social Studies curriculum is project-based, integrated with other learning areas, and brought to life through guest speakers and field trips. Classroom discussions prompt students to consider their relationships with the world around them through topics ranging from community, geography, history, and citizenship.

Social Emotional Learning

Social Emotional Learning is an essential part of our school mission. Integrated into our curriculum, students develop skills for learning, recognizing and managing emotions. Health and safety, conflict resolution skills, and appreciation of diversity and differences are also emphasized.

Art

In art, our approach emphasizes hands-on play, experimentation, and creativity. Students experience the joy of making things while exploring a variety of materials and techniques. Visual arts and performing arts are regularly incorporated into student’s daily work and learning environment.

Music

In music, students are introduced to songs, musical concepts, and various instruments. Music and the performing arts are also a central feature of our annual end-of-year celebration, where children have an opportunity to share their work with the whole school community. Private piano lessons are offered on campus as an afterschool extracurricular.

Physical education

In PE, our younger kids focus on motor skills development, while our elementary students develop knowledge and skills in various sports. Optional afterschool sports clubs are offered for different age groups.
